...and sample sale sections bags were $150 and still leftovers last night - because $150 for samples is pricey - last year you could find a slightly damaged bag for $50. They will be adding new "sample" bags - but get there when they replenish stock in the morning. This year a puny nothing tagged for $75. One man guarded his stash of about nine bags like they were Chanels. Can you spell eBay? Last night there were fresh eBay postings - probably straight from the sample sale - of course those prices are closer to retail, but if you don't feel like dragging downtown to Lafayette Street in a hit or miss expedition, and don't mind paying a premium try eBay or some of the upscale online boutiques that are slashing prices bringing them close to (or in some cases lower) than sample sale ones.

A report from the front (To sample sale online or brick and mortar?)

I feel like I won the sample sale lottery last night. I must report that I snagged the Michelle O cover of People Tracy Reese pink eyelet kimono for a mere $50 at a garmento sample sale . It retailed for $395. A true sample sale price. Only the week before, Gilt, where I have a credit following an errant purchase, had an online sale and I compared the wares. Many of the items I saw at the sample sale were also online, but at substantially higher prices. Why shop online? If you're not a sample sale size, you may be better off buying online where you know you can get your size in 30 secs without the hassle and hustle of getting there in person. And even though sample sales are starting earlier (a good number now at 8 am and some open until 9 pm - formerly unheard of), it may still be hard to get to given your work schedule, parenting or social commitments since it's almost summer (even though it feels like a London fog one at that). If you're an out-of-towner, online still works unless you want to use your vacations for mini-shopping trysts to New York for sample-sale packed weeks like this one where you can catch Shoshanna, D&G, Catherine Malandrino, etc..... The deals online are still good compared to full-on retail and hand to hand combat at Berdgdorf's, but they are not steals compared with brick and mortar. And the shoes were a mere $45 - why don't they start the line with a size 5? Petite feet need to be shod too! Even men were snapping them up, presumably as gifts. I've noticed way more many men at women's sales - without any women in tow - are they shopping for themselves, a girlfriend, or to flip it on eBay? And please stay away from the dressing rooms! Readers, what say you on online versus in-person?

M.A.C Hello Kitty Couture Auction Thru Feb. 19
I have just leaned that we should rejoice in the name of kitties. Why? Because we have all been granted the chance to bid on a one-of-a-kind Kitty Creation, designed exclusively for M.A.C by Catherine Malandrino, Zac Posen, Charlotte Ronson, Hervé Léger, Kai Kuhne, Rosa Cha, Tadashi Shoji, The Blonds, threeasFOUR, Vicente Villarin, Giles, Dress 33, Elie Saab, Emmanuel Ungaro, Manish Arora, Qiu Hao, Zimmerman, Kate Sylvester, Shu Chi Huang and more.
The above images reveal just two of the designs that so brilliantly capture the essence of Hello Kitty - do I foresee a Project Runway challenge (if it ever gets back on the air)??
All proceeds benefit the Acquisition Fund for The Museum at FIT, the Fashion Institute of Technology. The M.A.C Hello Kitty Couture Auction ends on February 19 at 10:00pm EST/7:00pm PST.

eBay Score: Daniblack Shoes for $19.99
OK so here they are. The Daniblack shoes I scored on eBay for at total of $29.98 ($19.99 for shoes, $9.99 shipping). Only slightly used, it turns out that if they are hideous in person or don't fit, I can return them. Yes, I know they're kind of a loud color, but I'm trying to find something to go with the kind of loud skirt I posted the other day (the pink with turquoise sequins) and I decided the price was right, Bob Barker. And although I had never heard of this brand before, I did some checking around and it seems like there may be some hidden potential. I will report back once I actually have them in hand and on foot.

Shhhh...I'm busy bidding on shoes on ebay. I've never done this before, because if the shoes don't fit...then what do you do? Anyway, if I win this particular pair I will only be out $20, so I'm willing to take the chance in the name of professional blogging research. Stay tuned for the outcome...

The Police
This really has little to do with shopping, well maybe except for the part where my friend got $103 Police tickets for $44 each on eBay, but Sting is hot and sounds amazing.
