Feb. 11-15: Bloomingdale's Bra Fit Event

Stand up!  Pay Attention! Don't Slouch! Ladies, if you are out of your 20s, you need to reassess your rack.  Check out Bloomingdale's free bra fit event (until you decide to buy something, of course).  I firmly stand behind a well-fitting bra.  It can really make your clothes fit better and give you confidence.  Take it from me, I have my own "bad bra" tales.  Anyway, their experts at Bloomies aim to size you up and suggest some options from Wacoal, Calvin Klein underwear, Chantelle and more...and if you make any regular-price "intimates" purchase of $125 or more, you can take $25 off.  Call to schedule a fitting. Jan 14-18: Sale at Bloomies.

Wow the cold harsh reality of January has really stuck a wrench in my well-oiled shopping machine.  It's too cold to go outside, I have yet to lose the holiday meat ,AND I don't have MLK day off from my day-job!  So all I can tell you now is that there is a sale at Bloomingdale's starting today through Monday AND they have a coupon (see above) for an additional 15% off of most sale and clearance items.  If you are ordering online use promo code MLK15.

My Theory

My theory is that Theory makes a nice pair of pants...a nice pair of pants. But jeez Louise they cost a lot! I refuse to spend $300 on a pair of unlined pants, but I guess I am willing to spend $138. They really fit better than most pants, look fairly cool for work/dress pants, and they can be worn pretty much all year round. So a good investment, I'd say. I got these on the 40% off the lowest marked price rack at Bloomingdale's today. And I suspect I may be able to find others on sale at Nordstrom's, Saks and Bergdorf's...but that is just a theory.

Matt & Nat Eco-Friendly Handbags and Such

Matt & Nat design their bags so you shouldn't have to make a choice between being chic and eco-friendly/responsible. These designer bags cost around $300 and smaller items like wallets are approximately $80. Their vegan bags and accessories sell online (mattandnat.com), in boutiques like Fred Segal and Holt Renfrew, and in department stores like Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks and Bloomingdale's.
Depending on the size, 15-55 recycled plastic bottles go into the material used to make their bags. The bags are 100% vegan, and don't use any leather.
And they've got a bunch of stuff on sale too!: http://www.mattandnat.com/product/search/all_rebate/0/sale/

Gift Cards and Returns and Cash...Oh My!

I asked for a red scarf for Christmas. And I got it. And then when I brought it home I thought, "why did I ask for this?" So I returned it (sorry mom) - but I got something so much better! A gold (OK, not real gold) Skagen watch. I can't get enough of these Skagen watches, I have four! Then I also had a gift card from Bloomingdale's, so I went there and bought some Laura Mercier makeup...and then with the remainder put a small dent in a Elie Tahari coat that I couldn't say no to. It is so great - the style I have been seeking, 30% off, and...IT FITS! Then I headed to the Apple store where I bought a new iPod (an 8GB Nano) that I love - they have made some vast improvements over the one I bought about a year and a half ago. And since I gave them my old one back for "recycling," I got 10% off. THEN I went to Sephora because I had another gift card (thanks mom) and I bought a bunch of other fun makeup odds and ends from Make Up For Ever, Smashbox and Stila. I swear that store is a candy store for women.

Black Friday: I told you so

I really can't stand Black Friday, or perhaps I just don't really like Saks. I ran in there this morning to check out the coat sales, and if they had my size in an army green Searle wool jacket, I would have bought it - I think it was only $136 with all the sale reductions. But otherwise I'm just not into Saks, I suppose. There are other sales going on today - Lord & Taylor, Cole Haan, Century 21, Daffy's, Bloomingdale's...if you're into that kind of thing. However, I'm guessing that the sales will continue and even improve between now and Christmas with the state of the economy.

Originally $144.00 got it for $93.00 and free shipping...

I did a little Web crawling today and found a great deal on a cute red sweater/jacket for all of you "small" ladies, thanks to Bloomingdale's. Depending on where you buy it (online vs. in-store) it will end up costing you somewhere between $26.00 and $36.00. Bloomingdale's Private Sale Sept. 23-25, 2008

Yes, it's that time of year. Not as good as Lord & Taylor's sales I don't think, and too many people go to Bloomingdale's, but not a bad score if you are needing to buy stuff:

Take $25.00 off any purchase of $100.00 or more.

You need the coupons though, which I received in the mail.

"Certificate valid for one-time use only and must be presented at time of purchase. Limit four certificates per customer, please. Exclusions apply."

Bloomindale's Success - BCBG / Calvin

OK, so I totally did not need a jacket and a sweater, but how could I pass these two items up? The BCBG MaxAzria jacket was originally $238, and I got it for $55! The white Calvin Klein, part-angora sweater was originally $178. For me? $44! I think it would have been criminal to have passed either item up don't you?

I have already worn the sweater, like a hot little (fine, medium-sized) bunny prancing around the big city.
And once I get the Theory pants from yesterday's blog shortened I shall have myself a work outfit worthy of a "What Not to Wear" transformation. Not that I need one, of course ;)

Success at Bloomingdale's Part I: Theory

I RARELY go to Bloomingdale's. It's too expensive, too crowded, the merchandise is picked over...I could go on. But I decided yesterday that it might provide me with a wider selection of pants (I love pants) all housed under one roof - a major plus during this cold spell.

Well I haven't changed my views much, but I did make some decent scores, such as these great Theory navy blue pants for $96 (originally $230!). But I still need MORE PANTS!
I got some other groovy stuff too...more on those items tomorrow.

Bloomingdale's: Post-Xmas Coupon

Hi all...I am not in my usual Guerilla Command center, so I am hoping that some of my post Xmas sale advice has been useful. I have been taking photos of presents given and gotten and am going to get out into the world of sale retail a couple of days this week, so stay tuned!
