GSNYC Commences Closet Cleaning

In hopes that my spring cleaning would have the power to usher in the new season, I took a day off of work and went through my closets. I donated most of my gently-worn castoffs to mother guerilla and to charity, but I offer you some of my best items at wildly reduced prices. And alas, if I have no takers, I intend to donate them to Housing Works on E. 23rd St. and just hope that they pick one or more to grace the artful display windows.

Item #1: Pas de Quoi cotton (very) patterned tunic top. Direct from Paris this size 3 (i.e. large) top can tie around in front or back. I have worn it a few times, but I'm just not comfortable in the style. So it can be yours for $20.

Item #2: This pastel size 4 (i.e. large) Custo Barcelona top is something of a collector's item, as are all Custos. It is several years old and in decent shape, it just doesn't fit me (it's too short for my taste). But it can also be yours for $20.

Item #3: Equipment striped button-down shirt with French cuffs, size medium. I loathe to part with this fab shirt, which I have had for many years, but it is simply too narrow on my..."Rubenesque" body. $40.

Item #4: Size 39.5 black leather Kenneth Cole boots. These fairly pointy, 3.75"-heel, zip-up boots have been worn no more than a dozen times. They are simply too high for me! The whole height of the boot is less than 12" from the top of the boot to the bottom of the heel. In original box. Originally almost $300, marked down to just under $200. They could benefit from new soles, so they are yours for $40.

DSW SUCKS

Yes, I am on a tear today. I went to DSW this weekend, and perhaps it's down to a weird fashion time of year, but the inventory SUCKED. But the last time I went there I thought it sucked too. So I am wondering if they have turned into DSucksW. Half the shoes are Blowfish...Blowfish? What the hell kind of shoes are those? Well just go look at them, and you will see they are crap. What happened to the Cole Haans and Kenneth Coles? Not that they are the height of shoe fashion, but at least they are in the ball park. OH! And even better, I did spy a pair of Frye boots in black and brown and the price was NOT MARKED DOWN AT ALL. They cost $345 -- Retail! And their sneaker selection stinks too. I will go back one more time in the new season, and if they don't impress me, I think I will have to banish them to Marty's Shoe Warehouse land.

Yes I Went to the Oscars (again)

I didn't get to see too much famous fashion up close this year, but it's always fun to people watch the "normal" folk too.

So this year I wore the brown side of my Kifka Heller custom dress, with the necklace I bought ages ago at Les Nanas, Kenneth Cole shoes, Estee Lauder makeup and a bag loaned to me by Scott Stargardt (the designing man behind K+H).

Hopefully I will be getting a real full length shot of myself with Oscar from the kind people at the Academy, but until then, here's a DIY shot my camera took of me in my hotel room (the Omni on Olive St. downtown - swift service, but kind of a middle management experience overall. What do you expect for $152/night?)

Kenneth Cole Kicks

So on my travels southward last week I encountered a younger (not by much!) male version of yours truly, the Guerilla Shopper.

I first noticed his shoes in the airport (it's the shoes money, it's gotta be the shoes) and didn't yet know that he and I were going to the same place! When I ran into him later on, I took the opportunity to admit my shoe admiration at which time I learned there was another pair that would make its debut the following day (brown/tan). Don't they look lovely against the puke-carpet that covered the entire hotel? I haven't seen a worse floor covering since I was in Reno in the 80s.

Anyway, he explained that he made his "kicks score" at an 80% off sale at Kenneth Cole store at the Chestnut Hill Mall in Mass. A man after my own wallet saving initiative, indeed!

Shoe Letter from a Guerilla Shopper Devotee

Dear Guerilla Shopper,

The infamous Jimmy Choo boots I referenced in my last letter finally die the shoe equivalent of Art Buchwald's death - they were shoe "hospice" for about a year, knew they were going, and went out in style. By breaking a heel on the show floor of CES, to be precise. I left them right where they came off, for the last time, in a bathroom in a house in Vegas. Tragic, but inevitable. So, the quest for a similar (but of course not identical) pair started last week. I took your advice and went to DSW, where for $150 I got a pair of Kenneth Cole high ankle boots with buckles. They are in no way REPLACEMENTS for said dead Choos, but I must admit, a very affordable and nicely crafted addition to my shoe arsenal. Photo to follow.

My First Present: Kenneth Cole Watch

Yay! Here's the first full-fledged Christmas present I received so far this year (from my "very special friend"): the Kenneth Cole KC4451 for Women.

As the minutes tick by, I like this watch more and more. It's packed full of bling in a low key way through its streamlined design. But it also has a pink face! Oh pink!

The band is a tad big, but I shall have a link or two removed as soon as possible so that it, like me, is perfect. sigh...

Kenneth Cole Gold Boots Befitting a Superhero!

Cheesey? Maybe... Boring? Hardly... Ignorable? NEVER! I recently picked up this pair of gold Kenneth Cole boots at his beloved outlet in Secaucus, NJ. FOR THIRTY-FIVE DOLLARS.

I don't care what you say or think. They are fabulous, stylish and comfortable and, when I wear them, I feel like a superhero! Or maybe the FTD Mercury logo guy, at the very least. Either way you can wear them straight up or folded over. With a skirt or pants. And funnily (funnily?) enough, the color is a neutral -- meaning it goes with practically everything.

Now color is one thing, but style is another. Meaning I wouldn't be caught dead in these with any kind of formal wear, and probably not any delicate-material skirt. I may be periodically flashy, but I'm not tasteless!

I gotta zoom on outta here in my gold boots and get back over to the Seacaucus outlets...it's been too long!
