Oak on Bond Street

If you can't beat 'em join 'em? I guess we have to relent to the very rich and stylish that Bond St. no longer belongs to the public. Or most of the private. So let's shop at the new clothing store Oak (28 Bond St between Bowery and Lafayette) where Ghost used to be. It's fun for a boy AND a girl.

I feel a bit guilty about the recent liteness of new shopping tidbits for my adoring public, but among other reasons that I won't bore you with, January is just not a very shopping-friendly month. It's cold (finally), it's right after Christmas (no money), it's too early for Spring, too late for fall...so I've found myself doing more online shopping than I normally ever do.

I've bought CDs (yes I know, I may as well have bought 8-track tapes) on Amazon.com, sheets on SmartBargains.com (1000-thread count for less than $60!) and a top on BlueFly.com. I don't usually buy clothing online, but I had a credit from a Christmas gift that didn't fit, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Then, one of my favorite stringers in the whole wide world who has helped me bring to you the unbelieveable Calypso sale a couple of months ago and the $25 Ghost jeans, has now provided me with a new online shopping resource: ShopBop.com (see pic).

This site has got tons of fashion's bleeding edge brands all in one place. While some of the apparel, which includes clothing, shoes, lingerie, jewelry and sunglasses, is on sale, it is in no way cheap or affordable to the normal working person. Also, the models appear to be a size negative zero, but if for nothing else, the site will give you some new ideas, keep you up to date on what the really cool kids are wearing, and I suppose provide groovy fashion access to people who live in far flung regions of the galaxy.

Ghost on Bond St.: Hurry! $25 Jeans!

I have walked by, but never into Ghost on Bond St. But when one of my friendly stringers just informed me of their "we're closing sale" going on through the end of January, I decided I had to check it out.

Most of the rayon, unstructured, flowy dresses, skirts and tops are not really my style, but $25 designer jeans are! I tried on three different pairs and settled on the ones pictured below (the last ones of their kind). You need to get yourself in there and buy some. I found the "stretchy" ones much more comfortable than the "rigid" pair, however I think I liked the "rigid" denim better. I bought the stretchies (I must be getting old.)

I asked why they were closing, and can't really remember what the answer was because I was so mortally stunned by the following exchange:

Me: "Are you closing because the rents in this neighborhood are skyrocketing?"
Salesdude: "No, it's really cheap down here. Like Sixteen."
Me: "Sixteen hundred?"
Salesdude: "No, sixteen thousand."
Me: "A year?"
Salesdude: "No, a MONTH. It's retail!"

I should probably move to Idaho, because there is no way on earth that I could ever understand that $16,000 A MONTH is considered CHEAP. Oh good lord.
