Intermission: Tom Binns Jewelry is Ruling My World Today

My funky fresh friend just sent me several links to the Tom Binns website, and I am an immediate convert.  It is taking me back to all that was holy in the 80s.  Some of the pieces are out of the range of what a 99 percenter would consider affordable (such as the one pictured above), but there are other items in the more down-to-earth area ($200+).

Located at 41 Perry Street in our fair city's West Village, I shall make my next best attempt to visit...once I have time and money again.

And now...back to your regularly scheduled e-program.

SKULLS! by Devora Libin Jewels

Roxy II, Blue  $125

Poppy S., Rutilated Quartz & Onyx  $80
Devora Libin Jewels' publicist reached out to me regarding their latest collection.  It's rare to get pitched something this good by a PR person. And I should know, since I have been one for longer than I will admit.

I am a huge fan of classy punk rock style.  And these pieces are the embodiment of that.  You can slip in and out of conventional society undetected, until someone looks closely, of course.

The pictures tell the story, but just so you know, this stuff is super high-quality. And I really dig the glittering crystal pave beads and Swarovski crystal detailed skulls.  There are skull necklaces and earrings available online too, although wearing ALL skull jewelry at once might be overkill.  So check out the handcuff and pistol pieces to break up the monotony!

Birthday Ring c/o Metal Pointus

Metal Pointus: One of my favorite jewelry stores, by way of France, supplied me with this years b'day present.  I love the gems in this store, which just moved a short distance over to Elizabeth St. on a great block.  Metal Pointus, how you adorn my finger with metal and magic...This is the joint if you are moved by heavy metal jewels!

Last night's Simkhai Show Debuted Collab with Ben-Amun

Inventive and certain to be conversation starters, the Isaac Manevitz collaboration for Jonathan Simkhai's modern Fall 2011 line showcases tassels - leather no less. Adorning wrists, fastening a draped dress
secured by a safety pin, or hanging seductively from leather cords coiling into necklines, tassels graduate into an accessory not just for exotic dancers. Also of note, metal upside-down T-shaped earrings.
The ever-versatile Manevitz and his amiable wife Regina showcased and viewed the presentation at the Zach Feuer Gallery last night.

Report from the Front: Wendy Mink Sample Sale

Nancy Brenner brings GS back to life, post-vacay:

Confession: Rarely do I pay retail, but Wendy Mink is a purveyor of such delicately individualized pieces - bracelets, earrings and necklaces, that I even drop by the comfortable artsy boutique in between official sample sales succombing to irresistible retail wares.

I spied pieces starting at $15 and a gold cuff bracelet I coveted earlier in the season slashed to $50. Shoppers called all day in anticipation of the sample sale that started at noon.

Head there for first section of designs in striking shades of red or turquoise, bringing out the color of your eyes or the hue of your dress at prices that won't pop your purse.

Worst side effect: strangers will ask you where you bought your jewelry.  You can decide if you want to share the intel, keep it to yourself, or tell them you bagged it at Bergdorf.

Ben-Amun: The eagles have landed

at Ben-Amun as part of the military look for Fall 2010 seen at the Coterie show at the Javits Center. Pins are big. The spikes that Jennifer Aniston wore in a necklace, now decorate a silver pin. Check out the military spread in the current Vogue. Their tribal collection includes Cleopatra gold spike necklaces and brass cuffs that are big - in impact and weight - several inches wide and long - you can skip part of your daily upper body workout. Tribal looks are part of nearly every accessory collection at the show. Their coin collection is still strong. Edgier looks in the industrial collection include necklace fashioned from brass and leather or gunmetal chains. And brides looking for beautiful bling for their big day without breaking the bank for the real thing, can pick up trendy, yet timeless rhinestones and pearls from their collection. Original updater looks from Ben-Amun last a lifetime.

...or so says Nancy Brenner...

The Necklace Quest Endeth at...Versani

I was in dire need of a multi-layered sterling silver chain necklace of above-average quality.  I scoured the web, I looked in every jewelry case I walked by.  And in the end I went back to a place that has delivered for me in the past: Versani (the one on Mercer St.).  I am glad I went to inspect it in person, because when I spied it on the Versani website, I was not an automatic convert.

They did have to remove the top, inside chain, as it was literally choking the life out of me, but once that was quickly and effectively completed, I became the necklace's proud new owner (see photos taken on a mousepad).  In fact I am wearing it now.

And no I didn't buy it for myself.  It is Xmas present #5 of seven.  I love presents, and especially seven of them.
