Calypso Warehouse in LIC

I left work to go check out the mythical Calypso Warehouse sale, which runs from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. every Thursday, Friday and Saturday and found it to be nothing more than a fleeting oasis among several other warehouses in the area. Not that is doesn't exist - oh no! For it does. However, I was entirely underwhelmed by both the merch and most of the pricing. A cotton see-through dress with no shape originally $195 for $135 does not inspire me in any way, particularly not to haul my a. out to LIC on the 7. Although it was fairly hassle free since I left from my day-job office. Anyway, I find their big blow out sales to be much more interesting. But perhaps it is my age and disdain for summer clothing that created this sense of dismissal. But I really don't think so - it simply is not top notch.

Calypso: STOCK UP FOR SUMMER SALE

So I went to this today:

CALYPSO STOCK UP FOR SUMMER SALE Enjoy up to 80% Off Original Retail Prices Summer dresses, shorts, swimsuits & more..New arrivals weekly.
Sale Starts March 21
Store Hours: Thurs-Sat 11-7, Sunday 12-6

But that sucked so I went to the Calypso Outlet next door and got these faboo shoes for $50 (usually $250) - they have them in blue (shown) and a dark "burnt sienna" tone as well. They are groovy, have a platform and the heel's not too high. I advise you to get on down there and getcha self a pair on the double.

(Some) Success at Calypso Sample Sale

So I actually went to Calypso sale yesterday - and yes, I even waited on line to get in! So you know I was on a mission, amidst my "glamour grieving"....

I found that this one wasn't as good as the October sale - the location (dark dank room), the merchandise (not as much), the prices (more expensive). However, I did come out of there with a skirt from Yesterday Never Dies, a top from Sophia Kokosalaki, and a lacey jacket from Suzie Kondi - regularly $795 for $110.

So today is the last day the sale is on - so dodge raindrops and get yourself down there, why not?

Calypso Sample Sale - April 12-15

Run, don't walk to the Calypso Christiane Celle sample sale! I went to it in October and scored major deals, spending $100 and getting $1,500 worth of cool shit:

April 12-15
Thurs. - Sat.: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Sunday: 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
378 Broadway (SE corner of White St.)
take: NQRW or 6 train to Canal St.
cash or credit; no try-ons

...and might I suggest not bringing any bags or purses with you [they will take them at the door], and wear as minimal clothing as possible (i.e. if it's not freezing, leave the coats at home and you can try to quickly try stuff on over your clothes).

She Shopbop.com

I feel a bit guilty about the recent liteness of new shopping tidbits for my adoring public, but among other reasons that I won't bore you with, January is just not a very shopping-friendly month. It's cold (finally), it's right after Christmas (no money), it's too early for Spring, too late for fall...so I've found myself doing more online shopping than I normally ever do.

I've bought CDs (yes I know, I may as well have bought 8-track tapes) on Amazon.com, sheets on SmartBargains.com (1000-thread count for less than $60!) and a top on BlueFly.com. I don't usually buy clothing online, but I had a credit from a Christmas gift that didn't fit, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Then, one of my favorite stringers in the whole wide world who has helped me bring to you the unbelieveable Calypso sale a couple of months ago and the $25 Ghost jeans, has now provided me with a new online shopping resource: ShopBop.com (see pic).

This site has got tons of fashion's bleeding edge brands all in one place. While some of the apparel, which includes clothing, shoes, lingerie, jewelry and sunglasses, is on sale, it is in no way cheap or affordable to the normal working person. Also, the models appear to be a size negative zero, but if for nothing else, the site will give you some new ideas, keep you up to date on what the really cool kids are wearing, and I suppose provide groovy fashion access to people who live in far flung regions of the galaxy.

Check it out and see for yourself!
