HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR FAVORITE LEATHER COAT, JACKET OR HANDBAG
All: I just received the following press release from the Professional Leather Cleaners Association, and thought it might be useful regarding the care of your leather jackets, handbags, teddies or masks (see pic.):
Leather is one of the hottest fashion trends this Fall and consumers will have many questions about caring, cleaning, and maintaining their leather garments and accessories. The Professional Leather Cleaners Association, a not for profit trade group, provides consumers with this information and much more on their website, http://www.professionalleathercleaners.org/.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR FAVORITE LEATHER COAT, JACKET OR HANDBAG
The Professional Leather Cleaners Association is here to help consumers make their valuable leathers and shearlings last a very long time
NEW YORK, NY, September 28, 2011 − Leather is one of the hottest fashion trends this Fall and the Professional Leather Cleaners Association wants to make sure your valuable leather garments and accessories look their best and last a very long time!
Top ten care tips for your leather garments, shearling garments and accessories.
Leather ages gracefully and can last a lifetime with the proper care right from the start;
Always hang leather garments on wide or padded hangers to maintain their shape. Use shoetrees in footwear and stuff empty handbags with tissue to help retain their shape.
Never store leather goods in plastic or other non-breathable covers. This will cause leather to become dry.
Allow wet or damp leather to air-dry naturally away from any direct heat source. Leather can be treated with a conditioner to restore flexibility while suede can be brushed with a terry towel to restore its look.
In winter, promptly remove salt deposits from garments and footwear by sponging with water; follow with the above treatment for wet or damp leather.
Avoid very humid and dry environments as well as direct sunlight.
Do not use waxes, silicone products or other leather preparations that will impair a garment’s ability to breathe.
Wrinkles should hang out. If ironing is desired, set iron on rayon setting, use heavy brown wrapping paper as a pressing cloth on right side of the garment and a quick hand to prevent overheating and shine.
Avoid spraying perfumes or hair sprays while wearing your garment and do not apply pins, adhesive badges or tape. Wearing a scarf at the neckline will help keep hair and body oil away from the collar.
Hems may be fixed with a tiny amount of rubber cement. For best results, see a leather care professional.
All products formulated for at-home use should be tested on an inconspicuous part of the garment.

Lauren Moffatt Fall
Too cool for school is the vibe of Lauren Moffatt's Fall 2011 collection which previewed at the Coterie show. Her sweaters are made of high quality (can I feel that texture?) felted wool. The leather/wool knit skirt with a zipper down the front is a combo that will stand out from pure leather looks this Fall. The line is sold at laurenmoffatt.net and at speciality stores around the globe. Prices will range from $295 for the wool/leather combo to $272 for sweaters.

Fall 2011 Trends: Hemlines do double duty as dusters...
Photo: Dan Lecca for Cynthia Steffe
...for your floors, unless you have a handmaiden to lift the bottom of your dress as you scurry about town. Boy blazers, boy flats with shoelaces, menswear-inspired plaids, shapeless bulky sweaters - for girls - why do designers design to dress dames like dudes? Guys look out for a little extra competition from women tomorrow at the Barneys Warehouse Sale who may be stocking up for themselves for Fall 2011. Leather everything. A resurgence of jade, emerald and sea foam greens -- redheads, this is your season to rule. Lush luxe fur looks in rainbow of hues. Sleeves on dresses are back - finally. Opaque tights - use those Lord & Taylor coupons now! Cozy neck wraps. Antique gold. Red. Color me happy.

Leather by...Stella Zotis (of Project Runway fame)
I don't think I've exclaimed my deep and lasting love of New York City recently. Well the other night was one of those nights that reinforced my enduring commitment...but I somewhat digress....
Or your boss.
Or your husband.
Anyway, I'm kind of loving this whole metallic leather trend. I may have to investigate further, and determine if this curious material might somehow suit yours truly, somewhere besides on my feet.
I went with Laura (of Belle de Nuit flowers) to the Catclub's reunion party at the Bowery Electric primarily to see Stella Zotis' leather fashion show. Talk about leather-work -- Damn! I think it's safe to say that these are not the kinds of leather designs that you find in a suburban department store. This is rock 'n' roll craftsmanship at its finest. Certainly it helps if you also live the rock 'n' roll lifestyle, but you might just need at least one Stella Leatha outfit for one of those "special occasions" that you don't tell your parents or kids about.
Or your husband.

Best Buffed Men in NY...
...spend nooners at the Leather Spa where their bespoke shoes are polished to perfection.
This shop is is lined with tell-tale red soled Louboutins and exudes eau de exotic leather. A woman with a mink caplet and matching headband dropped off her boots for full treatment. My six-year + Barneys warehouse sale Prada boots looked like they would be in good hands. I also left a leather lambskin lasercut cut skirt with a rip (don't even ask how that happened). The results: the boots look like they never touched a sidewalk and the skirt - well if you can see where the original tear was - you are standing way too close to me.
If Dorothy's ruby reds needed a spit shine, she'd head to The Leather Spa. Expect to pay more than your neighborhood taps and heels guy, but this is the place if you need a little leather Botox, 10 West 55th St.

Sacco: Low-Heeled Black Leather Boots that Fit
After looking in every major department store, and frankly every shoe store I walked by, I finally found what I needed at Sacco on the Upper West Side (though they have other locations, such as Chelsea and near Union Square).
I was torn between the sleek-and-pointy short boots and the tall "cop" boots that laced up the back - mainly because I could not believe my great good fortune that they actually zipped all the way up. So I did what any lady would. I bought them both. And lucky for me, all boots were $50 off a pair last weekend - although I think that special is over for now. Not exactly what I would call cheap, but so much better than the usual $700+ per pair - each cost less than $300.
The shorties also come in a longie, but they refused to zip all the way up. Sacco does provide a boot-stretching service for those of us whose calves are bigger than 14-inches. Which apparently is not so rare, seeing how there was a woman taking them up on that offer in my presence.
I have worn them both already and find them to be more comfortable than any boots I have owned in a very long time. As such, I am booking around town in style, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Jutta Neumann Closes Retail Location
So I had the sale card sitting right there on top of my microwave, and didn't realize that the reason for the "buy 1, get second 80% off" sale was due to the fact that Jutta Neumann is CLOSING the retail store on 158 Allen St. And now the sale is over. I am sad but not surprised as the last time I was in there we had a discussion about how oppressive retail rents are...Anyway, it looks as though you can still buy the iconic handmade goods online. So do that instead.
