Oscars 2009: Brad Pitt + Other Boys (some with girls)

So I don't even know who a couple of the young bucks in my pictorial even are, but almost everyone was strutting basic black tie. Except for sir Mickey Rourke, who looks more than a little bit worse for the wear, but who also had a pretty cool suit on. I read it was Jean Paul Gaultier and he wore it well, especially in contrast to the spandex he squeezed into for his nominated role in The Wrestler.

Oscars Fashion: Regular, Unfamous Women

Amidst the celebs were hundreds of regular people, all traipsing down the red carpet. Here are three examples of such private citizens, donning their Sunday best...or worst?

On top you will note the lady with the oven mitts for sleeves. Or perhaps she's a modern-day Alice in Wonderland. Actually, she looked quite nice, it was just those sleeves that I couldn't turn away from, like a car accident.

I'm not sure who the girl in the next two photos was, she was obviously there working for someone, but I noticed that she looked better than all the other laypeople on the carpet. I really liked her dress, twas my kind of get-up. I wonder who she was wearing.

Then, for the grand finale, the final three photos of the lady with the dress of unknown description. Like an 80's collage umbrella...and that's all I have to say about that.

Oscars 2009: Ladies

So it pretty much seemed like a night of white(ish) and red dresses, with a few silver and purplish thrown in. I kind of miss Cher...or Bjork.

Actually the best and the worst dresses (according to me) weren't worn by the stars...those tomorrow!

Oscars 2009: Branjelina

Just because...Yes, I took this photo! More on the Oscars this week...(I just got back!). xoxox

Limelight is Lounge

I wasn't aware of this, but it doesn't sound good. Especially in the space where Michael Alig reigned and I saw Fear play in the 90s.

DSW SUCKS

Yes, I am on a tear today. I went to DSW this weekend, and perhaps it's down to a weird fashion time of year, but the inventory SUCKED. But the last time I went there I thought it sucked too. So I am wondering if they have turned into DSucksW. Half the shoes are Blowfish...Blowfish? What the hell kind of shoes are those? Well just go look at them, and you will see they are crap. What happened to the Cole Haans and Kenneth Coles? Not that they are the height of shoe fashion, but at least they are in the ball park. OH! And even better, I did spy a pair of Frye boots in black and brown and the price was NOT MARKED DOWN AT ALL. They cost $345 -- Retail! And their sneaker selection stinks too. I will go back one more time in the new season, and if they don't impress me, I think I will have to banish them to Marty's Shoe Warehouse land.

Recession? Not at Housing Works...

While retailers across America are going out of business or closing hundreds of locations, NYC's very own Housing Works is opening NEW locations and adding new events regularly. Perhaps it is good karma? Two exciting events:

1. Housing Works Opening in Tribeca
Housing Works Thrift Shops will open a new location in Tribeca at 72 Warren St. (between West Broadway and Greenwich St.). The Tribeca location will be open for business starting Tuesday, February 24, 2009. Store hours are 11am to 7pm, Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5pm on Sundays.
The store will offer the same selection of secondhand furniture, artwork, clothing, housewares, accessories and books for which Housing Works Thrift Shops are famous. The store will also serve as a donations point for area residents.
A party featuring celebrity auction items and first peek at the store’s sought-after Spring Preview merchandise will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2009 from 1pm to 4pm.

2. Racked.com editor Leslie Price hosts a sale of the coolest party clothes
Once a month, a prominent fashion editor will choose a fashion theme and serve as the host of a party and sale dedicated to that theme. And it’s all for a good cause: All Housing Works profits go toward Housing Works’ services for homeless and low-income people living with AIDS.
The new series will launch on Thursday, February 19, with a party and sale at our 17th St. store (143 17th St) from 6 to 9pm dedicated to chic party clothes and hosted by Racked.com Senior Editor Leslie Price. (Housing Works members get in an hour early! Join today.) One of the featured items includes a vintage chiffon shell with gold sparkles, $20, and gold Lurex mock turtleneck dress by Alexia Admor, $50 (pictured above)
Leslie Price was part of the team that created Racked.com in 2007. The site has become one of the best online fashion and shopping destinations (and more importantly, it links to GSNYC!).

ABOUT HOUSING WORKS: Housing Works is the largest community-based AIDS service organization in the United States, as well as the nation’s largest minority-controlled AIDS service organization. Since 1990, they have provided lifesaving services, such as housing, medical and mental health care, meals, job training, drug treatment and HIV prevention education, to more than 20,000 homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS.
