Lord & Taylor: Bellwether that the Retail Sky is Falling

So I knew something was up when I started getting coupons from Lord & Taylor almost everyday. But then yesterday I got the ultimate Friends and Family coupon offering 25% off of pretty much everything and 10% off of fragrances and cosmetics. I didn't think I had ever heard of such a thing, and my instincts were confirmed when a GS stringer sent me an email noting her shock of the same. She also indicated that she was getting similar sky-is-falling sales notices from Neiman Marcus and Bendel's!

And by the way, anyone know the origin of the word "bellwether?"

Brooklyn Flea Market is...

Eh.

I mean there were a few unique things, but most of it was stuff that you see at other flea markets. And not while not wildly overpriced, certainly not cheap. For example, there were some really interesting, seemingly high quality, vases and mirrors, but for $195 and $600 respectively? Come on! Also, I was hoping that Brooklyn would kick out more jams hard core-style - like a booth selling custom-made leather lingerie or something. But alas, there wasn't too much of that, with slight exceptions:

• Wrecords by Monkey - Handmade recycled record accessories (see pic.) - interesting decorated wrist cuffs made out of old records that made me feel wonder-womanlyish when I tried a few on.
• Mohawk Studios - Welding, fabricating and custom steel creations. If I had managed to make my apartment more urban-hard-rock, I would have bought some of this guy's stuff - interesting coffee tables, chairs and other creations that appeared to be a bit torture chamber-like. Oh and giant bugs made out of railroad ties and nails.
• Celle Adore - Perfumes that smelled 100% like girl. Uncommon scents.
  

Nanette Lapore Smells Good

This stuff smells so good that I want to eat my own arm off when I wear it.

When I find a scent I like, I wear it for years. Nanette Lapore is one of those scents. In high school I wore Animale, which is probably a very funny 80s commentary.

Anyway, I again have to give thanks to the Guerilla parents who bought me the pictured Nanette gift set, which includes a GIANT bottle of perfume (much bigger than I would buy myself) as well as a candle and body lotion that is just as fragrant! I believe they picked it up at...that's right: Lord & Taylor.

It's all pink and beflowered and girly and when I wear it, I have to run down the street from all the men who chase me as if I were an ice cream truck on a summer's afternoon.
